Tender Fresh jowar (sorghum) is called as HURDA in Marathi and PONK in Gujarati.
Hurda is roasted on coal in mud pits which gives it an earthy taste. This freshly roasted hurda is then eaten with an accompaniment of various types of chutneys made of Sesame seeds, groundnuts, dry coconuts, garlic and red chillies. Additives like jaggery, Rewdi, lime and shev make the experience all the more interesting.
Hurda party is organized every year in the period between NOVEMBER – FEBRUARY.
Visitors can enjoy delicious maharashtrian food, it is cooked and served in the farm. They can also enjoy the activities organized in the farm.
They can spend whole day in farm enjoying the village lifestyle.
Hurda is usually served with yogfruit, garlic or groundnut chatney and sometimes along with`kharda’ an extremely spicy pickle made of green chillies
Hurda is high in fibre and provides them with much needed nutrition. It requires skill to trash jower in a way that it retains moisture and does not become too dry. All this hard work result in a delicious heap of hurda.
